What is anxiety?

Most people experience anxiety at some point in their life. You might experience mild symptoms when facing a challenging or stressful situation. You might also have more severe, long-lasting symptoms that impact your daily life, including:

  • feelings of panic, fear, or worry
  • restlessness
  • difficulty concentrating
  • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • fatigue
  • irritability
  • nausea, headaches, or digestive concerns
  • feeling a lack of control
  • muscle tension

What is Depression?

Most of us will feel dpressed at some point in our lives, whether we are feeling down or upset about something or not knowing why we have the blues.  But depression is something else altogether.  Click here to find out more about depression on the NHS website.

How can Acupuncture help?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine our organ meridians are linked to emotions, Liver/Aner, Lungs/Grief, Heart/Joy, Spleen/Worry, Kidney/Fear.  When we experience anxiety or depression this is because one or more of our meridians are blocked or not balanced.  Acupunture helps to balance and unblock the meridians to get the system running more smoothly.  Once you are balanced you will find that the anxiety and depression is reduced or gone completely.

An experienced acupuncturist will spend time diagnosing which meridians are being affected before coming up with your treatment plan.  They will spend a lot of time talking to you about the issues going on in your life.  This is not because we are nosey (well, sometimes it is LOL) it is because we want to get to the bottom of the issue, the root cause.  We can treat the symptoms to make you feel better but if we don’t treat the root cause the problem will come back over a number of weeks.

Following your diagnosis you will have a number of treatments, we usually say start with three and see how we get on.  You will probably feel an improvement from the first session but it is important to complete the course to make sure the root has been cleared.  You may need to have the occasionsal top up treatment because if the cause of anxiety or depression is something you continue to do then it will undoubtedly come back again.  I always say if you keep doing the same thing you will get the same results.  Sometimes we can’t do anything about the cause imediately such as a stressful job or relationship but eventually we come to realise that we must make a change for the better.

Acupuncture can help with anxiety and depression so contact me if you want to discuss your situation and to book in for a consultation and treatment.  There is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise you!
